QR codes provide a machine link between print and online media advertising. It is the no-keyboard way to find and be connected to an internet address. With ore than 30 million mobile phones users in Japan already having access to QR code readers as a standard feature of their mobile phones, Aap!Global is utlizing this technology to push new levels of interaction.

First the phone's camera is used to take a picture of the QR code. Its pre-loaded software then "reads" the QR image to decode the information. Then, using the phone's web browser, the user is automatically linked to a mobile-site. This is essentially a website scaled to fit mobile phone screens. The benefit of this QR code approach is to short-circuit the tedious and error-prone task of keying in a URL one character at a time. Instead, the QR code-reading software goes straight to the address and, at that point, the ad is stored on the phone.

Once at the site, customers register and give permission to be sent promotional messages, information, games and quizzes, which can be "pushed" out to them.
